10 Rare and Expensive Super Nitnendo Games

June 16th, 2009
JJ Hendricks asked:

The Super Nintendo is a very popular game system with hundreds of great games.  Many of the games for the SNES have become rare since their initial release.  And a few have even become very valuable collectibles.  Here is a list of the ten most expensive and rare games for the Super NES.

1. Donkey Kong Country Competition - $400

The game was part of a promotional tournament at Blockbuster Video locations and was never released for public sale.  Some Blockbuster stores gave the games away after the promotion or sold them in their bargain bins.  Because it was a limited edition item, it fetchs a hefty premium compared to other Super Nintendo games.

2. Starfox Super Weekend - $220

Another limited edition game used in a Blockbuster promotion.  Starfox Super Weekend was sold to some rental customers and Nintendo Power even sold a few extra copies to their subscribers.  The game is as hard to find as the Donkey Kong cartridge listed at #1, but doesn’t fetch the same premium price.

3. Earthbound - $70

Earthbound is the first game on the list that was actually sold to the general public.  The game is not hard to find online, but is very popular.  It is a non-traditional RPG with every day household items used for weapons and a funny story line.  The game has a cult like following.

4. Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen - $62

Enix only printed 25,000 copies of this game so it is fairly hard to find.  It is also a very well regarded RPG critically so many RPG fans are willing to pay a premium to play this rare game.

5. Ninja Gaiden Trilogy - $60

Ninja Gaiden Trilogy has all three NES Ninja Gaiden games on one cartridge with some slight graphical improvements.  The game didn’t sell very well initially but many gamers want the game now because it includes three great games for the price of one.

6. Castlevania Dracula X - $59

Dracula X is the last Castlevania game released on the Super NES and like many series, the last game sells the worst.  Collectors and Castlevania fans help increase the price of this rare game.

7. Harvest Moon - $57

Harvest Moon was released the same year the Nintendo 64 came out so many gamers had already moved onto the next system.  Because of this the game didn’t sell many copies.  This is the first game in the Harvest Moon series, so many fans want to play the game that started it all.

8. EVO Search for Eden - $56

EVO isn’t very rare at all, but is very popular with RPG fans.  It is a unique blend of platforming and role playing and is well regarded critically.  The popularity helps increase the price.

9. Chrono Trigger - $53

Chrono Trigger isn’t rare at all, but is one of the greatest games of all time according to multiple sites.  The all-star cast of developers, great story line, and game play help this game stand the test of time.  Sealed copies of Chrono Trigger have fetched more than $1,200 on ebay.

10. Mega Man X3 - $49

X3 was one of only two games that used a special 3D chip in SNES games.  Because this chip caused the game to be a bit of an oddity and has some of the best graphics for the system, gamers are willing to pay a premium.

Now that you know the most rare and expensive games for the Super Nintendo, be sure to keep an eye out for them when you go game shopping or cleaning out your old game collection.  You don’t want to sell one of these for a couple of bucks at a garage sale when it’s a collectible.

Video Game Tester - Work From Home as a Xbox Game Tester

June 14th, 2009
Jonathan Valentine asked:

Do you want to work from home as a Xbox game tester? This article will explain more about how you can become a video game tester and get paid to test play games. Gaming companies are hiring outsiders to test their video games to find the bugs and error before it release to the public. But the truth is the job will not turn out what you have expected.

Unless you enjoy playing video game otherwise you will find video game testing jobs quite tedious and difficult, it could consume a whole day of your time for testing one game. Basically to become Xbox game tester you must be employed by Microsoft, it doesn’t necessary to know programming or game development skill as long as you love playing video games they will hire you. Basically the game company will send the report and copied of the game through post mail to your doorstep, your job is to test play the video game and report any error or bugs you found in the game to the gaming company.

The report will have questions like “What did you think of the in game menu? (Was it easy to navigate, enter and exit different modes, etc…)” “Was there any noticeable game bugs?” and “Overall, How did the game perform? (Playability, replay ability, graphics, etc…)” As a Xbox game tester you will be require to provide an in-dept evaluation of the game you have tested and report any bugs or glitches you have discovered in the game. After you have finished with the report you can mail it back to the game company but allow keeping the copied.

In order to become Xbox game tester, first thing you need to do is to find the source where it has gathered a list of gaming companies that are hiring new game testers. Whether the company want to hire you it depend on your resume. You should write an interesting profile and give a good reason why you want to become a game tester. The pay rates are usually range from $10 per hour to $30 per hour. It depend on your experience, if you are a beginner the game company will pay you at a lower rate, if you have previous experience in game testing they will pay you at an average rate, if you have programming and game development skills you will be paid on above average rate. Overall the salary is depending on how much the gaming company is willing to pay, there is no uniform rate. You can become a video game tester for more than one company and earn a good income just by working from home.

Why A PC Is Better Than A Game Console For Online Gaming

June 1st, 2009
Gregg Hall asked:

Gaming consoles have taken over the gaming community. Companies such as Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony have changed the way we play video games. It used to be common to play computer games, sometimes against another person via the Internet.

Access to these games was only available through your computer, now there are several options available and more on their way. Once consumers began using game consoles online to play, companies feared the downfall of computer gaming. That was not the case at all. There are some disadvantages of gaming consoles for online gaming compared to personal computers.

Gaming Options

There are a few different brands of gaming consoles available right now. Microsoft has Xbox and most recently Xbox 360. Sony has PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 due to be released in November 2006. Nintendo has the Game Cube. Although these are all good consoles the PC has already been trying to merge the two (game consoles and pc gaming). Sony managed to merge them with its game Need for Speed, putting game console gamers against PC gamers in online games. This game became very successful. There are more pros than cons for gaming consoles when compared to PC gaming.

Disadvantages to Gaming Consoles

Some of the disadvantages of console gaming are:

All of the gaming components are sealed inside the unit. If there should be a problem you will have to replace most or all of unit, losing game data.

Once a console becomes outdated you cannot up grade without buying a new console.

A console is a one hit wonder; meaning you can only do one thing on it, play games. Unlike PC there is no other use for game consoles. Some do have the option of purchasing additional hardware, making DVD movie playback the only other option.

The games are not transferable. You can’t take an Xbox game and play it in a PlayStation etc.

Advantages to PC

There are some real advantages to owning a PC to play your games on. Here are a few:

The most popular advantage to PC gaming is the games! There is more variety and options for PC games than any other system.

Since the PC is more of a tool, games are easily downloaded and there are more and more made available for free.

Computers are made to handle the pixels displayed on the monitor keeping graphics sharp and without damage to the screen. Televisions weren’t made to handle the pixels as well and become damaged after a while.

Computers have many options available to connect to the internet, whereas consoles are limited.

Computers are versatile, allowing numerous upgrades and possible additions. Consoles are limited to the current system available.

Until a game console can handle the same things as a PC there is just no contest. PCs will still rule in the game world!

Two games you can play online

May 30th, 2009
Yanita asked:

The internet certainly has a lot of games available for anyone to play. Two of the most popular games played nowadays are online shooting games and sports online games.

Of course, since these are games, you have the nice animation, sounds and images that these games offer. But perhaps what contributed to the popularity of these games is that these games are simple to play but also pose quite a challenge. They have simple game instructions and rules, but they are quite hard to win. This keeps up the interest level in these games without putting people off as a game that’s too difficult or impossible to win.

Shooting games are simple to play. As the name suggests, you just have to shoot the enemies to win the game. Though the concept is simple, the rules and actual gameplay can be varied and complex. You have different challenges such as moving targets, limited ammunition, target obstacles and the like. These elements make shooting games more exciting and challenging since you’re drawn into the objective of hitting your enemies and targets. Aside from just shooting the targets, you also have online war strategy games that incorporate planning ahead to win games. So not just pure shooting, you also get to exercise your mind a bit. So these games add another dimension to the appeal of these games.

Sports games on the other hand, simulates actual game play of a particular sport. This is a hit for sports fans as they can get to enjoy the excitement of their favorite sports even when online. The appeal of these games is that they offer the same challenge of their favorite sports, and simulates the feeling of playing the actual sport. Examples of the games that you can play are tennis, golf, and motorsports, just to name a few.

If you haven’t played one of these games, they are pretty easy to find. Just use any major search engine like Google or Yahoo and you can find several of these games online. And what’s more, most of these sites offer free online games. You can play free adventure games and sport free online games on these sites. Aside from the games already mentioned, you can also find free action games in these sites. You can play games all you want since the games can be played for free.

So if you haven’t played any online game yet, you can try shooting and sports games. They are not only easy, but challenging to play, most of them are also free.

The Growing Realm of Online Gaming

May 27th, 2009
Kirk Pomerleau asked:

A fair number of internet users spend time playing computer games. There are many kinds of games available online. MMPORGs, or massive multiplayer online role-playing games, are immensely popular, but there are other games online that have just as many fans. Internet gaming is changing, however. And fortunately for the gamers out there, the change is making better games more accessible than ever.

The History of Gaming

Games as a form of entertainment have existed for countless generations. As we have found more leisure time, we have enjoyed more games. In the last fifty years games have developed at record speed. Card and board games are still popular, but have given way to a huge wave of internet and personal computer gaming.

The first computer games were developed in the 1960s and 1970s, although the original idea of a video game was patented in 1948. The games were simple in nature and restricted to special kinds of computers. Then, as personal computers developed, games such as Spacewar! and King’s Quest became popular.

Computer games advanced with new technology such as the joystick and other peripherals as well as advanced 3D graphics. Tomb Raider was one of the first PC game to use 3D graphics, and the realism of games then increased exponentially.

With the advent of the internet, gaming took another turn. Games were now available on countless websites. Some games were free to users to be played directly on the site. Many more were available for download after registering or paying a fee. The internet was also the medium needed to expand traditional PC games. MMPORG games exploded thanks to the internet, and smaller, but still social, games exist as well.

Modern Internet Gaming

Today websites are offering more than ever to enthusiastic gamers. For years the best games were reserved for those who took the time to register or pay to access a certain website or get access to downloads. Memberships ranged in price, but many were willing to pay to have access to the best graphics and cutting-edge technology.

Gaming sites have begun to realize that restricting access isn’t working as well as they would like. Piracy and blatant theft have cheapened the value of the membership or downloadable games. Some individuals pay to access or download a particular game only to copy it and sell or give it to others. This frustrated the game producers immensely.

So they came up with the best solution they could. If they can’t control the distribution of a paid game, they would simply make it free. Gaming sites are moving away from downloadable games and instead focusing on game play directly online. Many still encourage or require a registration of some kind, but you are no longer required to purchase and download large files to experience the ultimate gaming these sites have to offer.

Advances in technology are accelerating and this includes games. Graphics and elements using Flash or Shockwave have made computer games almost lifelike. Designers and companies spend hundreds of dollars and hours to create these games only to be slapped in the face by theft and copyright infringement. The game creators are slapping back at pirates by hitting them where it hurts. A pirate can’t sell a great game if it happens to be available free online. And that is a great perk for the rest of us.

Flash Game Licensing: a Win-win Situation

May 21st, 2009
Gary Goldstein asked:

Product inventors aren’t the only ones who can benefit from the concept of licensing. One very popular type of licensing benefits both Flash game developers and the companies that license Flash games. Read on to learn about how Flash game licensing works and how both the licensor and licensee benefit from this type of licensing.

Flash Games

Flash games are online games that are created using vector animation software. These games are very popular with online users and come in a wide range of categories including action, arcade style, and puzzle games. There are several benefits of using Flash to create games versus using other types of software. One is that Flash games load faster than games developed with other software programs. Another good reason to use Flash for games is to give the end user a richer gaming experience. Flash games are often very colorful and have moving game pieces or other features that make Flash gaming enjoyable for users.

Flash Game Licensing

When someone develops a Flash game, they can try to market and distribute it on their own, but they are more likely to license the game to a large company. In most instances, the licensee is not going to sell the Flash games to end users. Instead, the company will make the Flash games available for free in order to drive traffic to a site. If a company makes a free Flash game available, many people may visit their site and end up clicking on ads or making a purchase. This can help companies earn ad revenue or make more product sales.

Types of Licenses

When Flash games are licensed, this is typically called a sponsorship, and there are two main types of sponsorship. Each type gives the licensor and licensee different rights. In an exclusive sponsorship, the sponsor is paying the game developer to have their branding on all versions of the Flash game. This means that Flash games may be branded with the sponsor’s logo and other branding materials. In some cases, a sponsor may want all of the rights to a Flash game. This means that the sponsor can distribute the game, claim to be the developer of the game, or edit the code for the game. Another type of Flash game licensing is known as a primary sponsorship. The type of licensing is similar to an exclusive sponsorship, except that the licensor is allowed to sell other non-exclusive licenses to the game that do not have the sponsor’s branding attached. The developer can edit the game, claim authorship, enter the game in development contests, and advertise their own services within the game itself.

Benefits

There are benefits to both types of Flash game licensing. An exclusive sponsorship benefits developers because they can earn a good flat rate for the exclusive license. Some sponsors will also contribute to the testing of Flash games, so developers don’t have to bear this burden alone. Sponsors benefit because they have a game branded with their name and logo that can be distributed online. The major drawback for developers is that once the exclusive license is sold to a sponsor, they cannot continue selling non-exclusive licenses to other sponsors, which means their revenue is capped. A primary sponsorship benefits developers because they have more control over the games they develop and can earn a good deal of revenue from selling non-exclusive licenses to their games. The primary sponsor benefits because their branded game version is distributed all over the Internet, bringing them traffic and ad revenue.

What Makes Online Games Addicting

May 18th, 2009
Yanita asked:

Games in general are addicting. You can say that since online games are also games—though in a different format and medium— it’s natural that they should be also become addicting games. But then, there are more to online games than just being “games”. They offer many perks that other games can’t offer.

For one, online games are small in size. That means they are fast to download and play. You don’t have to wait hours (unless you’re using dial-up) for you to play the game. Not only that, you won’t need any special equipment or hardware to play the game. So long as you have a computer and internet connection, you can play online games immediately. Additionally, there’s a wide variety of online games in the internet. You have hundreds of choices for games for different genres and interests. This convenience, variety of choices and easy access are some of the things that make online games so popular.

Next is the graphics and gameplay. Though the graphics might not be as good as the games that you see in consoles such as PlayStation or Xbox games, the graphics and animation of online flash games are quite good for their size. For example, flash arcade games are quite at par with actual arcade games and are not that far behind to console games when it comes to animation. About gameplay, online games have different types for different skill levels. Though the complexity might not reach the level of, say, Medal of Honor, online games still pose quite a challenge. And that keeps online games from being too boring or easy.

Perhaps the most attractive aspect of online games is that a lot of them are free. You can play online games without spending anything. Since most sites offer free arcade games, you can play free arcade games without any limits. Whether you play for one minute or one hour, it doesn’t matter. Whether you want to play one game, or you want to play all of them, there’s no limit. And that is an effective incentive to make people want to play more. Since people are given free reign over the numerous games offered online, it’s but natural for people to want to try them all. Even if someone just played one game, the idea that he or she can go back anytime to play the game is a powerful invitation to come back for more.

And so, these are some of the reasons why online games can be so appealing. Easy to access, entertaining and free online games has a lot to offer that make people play some more.

Can You Really Benefit From Internet Computer Games

May 17th, 2009
Daniel Millions asked:

A number of people play computer games as computer games are fun-packed and allow players to enjoy their time. Computer games are also very exciting and this is one of the reasons of the popularity of computer games. Playing fun-packed computer games is one of the best ways to kill the time and to relax. However, not everyone is in the favor of computer games as people usually spend a lot of time on computer games because of the excitement and fun offered by them.

Also, an individual usually forgets about the real-world problems while playing computer games and this is one of the reasons why not everyone is in the favor of games. However, computer games have a number of benefits as well, but it depends on the player whether he uses computer games in a correct way or not. Excess of anything is not good and this is also applicable to the time spend on computer games. It depends on an individual whether he uses computer games in a beneficial way or not.

Benefits of computer games

An individual can improve the decision-making skills by playing computer games. In strategy based computer games, the player needs to make optimal use of limited resources in order to complete the missions. A plan has to be developed in order to use resources efficiently and to make a perfect plan, a number of things are to be considered and a number of decisions are to be made. Generally, the player needs to think ahead of the current situation and develop appropriate plans.

The ability to think forward in real-life is very useful and the people who can think ahead of the current situation usually have the plans ready for handling different situations. Sometimes in a game, decisions are to be made with-in few seconds and so, the player needs to think fast so as to make a decision. So, individuals who are not very good at making strategies and decisions can play computer games so as to improve the decision-making skills. However, you should not expect instant results as it takes time to improve the skills and the time required to improve the skills depends on the mental ability of the person.

Computer games also help individuals to improve their ability to memorize things correctly. Some games require players to remember the clues, maps, and the location in order to play the game easily. So, players try to memorize and re-collect various things while playing games. This helps them to remember and re-collect things easily in real-world. Remembering and re-collecting things in real-life is very useful and by playing computer games, an individual can improve his ability to memorize things.

People who play computer games are found to have better eye-hand coordination than people who don’t play computer games. While playing computer games, players need to use eyes and hands together. Players need to use hands to use the buttons which are required for performing different tasks available in the game and eyes are needed to see the game. The current situation of the game determines the task to be performed and so, the player needs to use hands and eyes together in order to play the game efficiently.

Computer games help individuals to improve their ability to solve puzzles. A number of puzzle games are available which require players to think logically so as to solve the puzzle. So, people can improve their ability to solve puzzles by playing puzzle-based computer games.

The Popularity of Arcade Games

May 13th, 2009
Daniel Millions asked:

Many years ago there were simple arcade games that could be played simply by pressing a few buttons on a controller. In today’s technologically advanced world there are so many ways in which a person can play their favorite arcade game: in an arcade room, on the computer, or on a game box console. Perhaps one of the most popular types of arcade games out of those options is the online arcade games that can be played.

Virtually any type of arcade game can be played on the internet: first-person shooter games, war games, action arcade games, and even team shooter arcade games. Of course, those are only a few of the types of games that can be found on the internet and there are plenty of websites that one can go to in order to feed their arcade craving.

Arcade Game History: Did you know that the two earliest coin-operated arcade video games debuted in 1971? The first, Galaxy Game, was placed at Stanford University, and the second one was called Computer Space. While Galaxy Game became popular at Stanford and was as popular as ever, Computer Space was the arcade game to be the first one that was commercially available. Since 1971, however, the arcade game industry has gone pretty far from the first two coin-operated arcade games that only had a couple of simple controls.

Traditional Arcade Games: As we all love to play them, arcade games offer a whole lot of fun! Whether you want to play puzzle or maze games or you want to control little characters, pretty much anything is possible these days in the arcade game industry. Chances are that everyone remembers some of the most popular games that started out as arcade games: Space Invaders, Pac-Man, and even Donkey Kong. On another note, Nintendo’s Mario character was first introduced in the Donkey Kong arcade game, although he was originally called “Jumpman.” All three of these games, though, not only were available for commercial use, but they were also very successful with game enthusiasts everywhere.

Transformation of Arcade Games: From starting out in these simple platform arcade games, however, the industry has come a long way. In arcade rooms today and on the internet there are all sorts of complicated maneuvers that players can use. Whether using a toy gun or a joystick to perform advanced tricks or using combination’s of button-presses to satisfy needs or character’s wants, arcade game players have had every advantage on their side. Racing games have also become very popular as arcade games today. In 1999, the racing arcade game titled Rush 2049 was released by Atari Games, which was also one of the last games to be branded with their logo.

One great advantage that arcade game enthusiasts have, however, is the presence of the internet. The internet has definitely changed the way in which arcade games can be played as well. Some arcade games, such as the Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPG) like The Lord of the Rings Online or Warhammer Online, have fueled many interactions between all sorts of gamers. All in all, arcade games have definitely changed dramatically over the years and continue to bring thrills and excitement to the arcade game industry so that everyone can play them no matter where they’re located.

How To Find Free Internet Arcade Games On The Internet

May 11th, 2009
Daniel Millions asked:

Internet arcade games, like flash games have developed immensely over the past decade. This has been further encouraged by the advancement of the internet which allows the web community to participate in game development. Fast connections with larger bandwidths also allow the rapid distribution of games, enabling flash games to reach a wider market. Children, teenagers and bored employees often take advantage of these free flash games offered by online arcades.

One of the many attractions of Internet arcade games is that they are usually free. These flash games are usually played online, or you can download them on to your computer. And unless your computer has a virus, it would be pretty hard to lose or break them! Internet arcade games are not as graphically pleasing or as elaborately designed as traditional platform games. There are arrays of games to choose from, so it should not be a problem picking a game that suits you!

Certain Internet arcade games may be hard on the eyes, because of the flashy ads and pop ups that tends to decorate the site. Some people may be turned off by these ads, but these ads are essential in keeping the games free. Website owners need to generate income to keep the sites running, hence the need to rent out advertisement space to retailers and businesses. Installing a pop up blocker should help you deal with this particular problem.

Many companies that produce these Internet arcade games are creating more elaborates games for online play. Due to the amount of work that goes into these games, manufacturers will charge a fee. In short, these types of games do not come free. Fortunately, makers of these games often provide a free trial demo allowing the user to decide whether it is worth shelling out the money. A simple Google search can bring you to a lot of website that offer these online games that you can join in on the fun. Most of these games have free trials that you can try before committing to the service.

MMORPG, which stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games, are the most advanced form of flash games. These games allow the game to be played by many users at one time. You will be required to pay a monthly subscription fee to enjoy the perks of this type of game. But for new users, there is usually a demo or trial version available. Some games allow free users to participate, however free users only get the most basic package. MMORPGs creators are continuously working on the game, adding new features and new story plots to keep the game interesting and its players content.

Many online arcades let you register for free. Once registered, you gain access to a range of functions. You automatically become a member of that particular online arcade community. Other users can view your profile, look at your profile picture or avatar and see how many games you have played and your high scores. You can communicate with others using forums or the PM (private message) feature.

With numerous websites available filled with countless fun, exciting free games, it is no wonder flash games are becoming increasingly popular and gaining much attention amongst internet users. All you need to join the fun is yourself, a computer and an internet connection. So let’s get playing today!
